Een point to point  buizenversterker uit de jaren 60!  Ace Tone was een voorloper van wat we tegenwoordig kennen als Roland/Boss. Wellicht niet een merk wat je in verband zou brengen met vintage point to point buizenversterkers, ook in Japan waren ze er al vroeg bij.

Vaak word beweerd dat het een japanse copy is van de Vox AC15, en qua knoppen en functies hlopt dat, maar: De rockey  is fixed bias (de Vox AC15 is kathode bias). Ook zijn de gelijkrichter en de tonestack van beide versterkers sterk verschillend.

Het was destijds dus wellicht een japanse poging om de vox AC15 qua functionaliteit na te bootsen, maar het is desalniettemin toch een andere versterker geworden. Dit “fixed bias” label zou bij technische versterkerliefhebbers toch enige liefde moeten vrijmaken..

De versterker doet het, maar de tremolo niet (moet misschien een nieuw buisje is, maar we hebben de oude japanse en Nederlandse buizen erin laten zitten). Dit is een unieke opknapper voor iemand die graag aan vintage versterkers sleutelt.

A point-to-point wired valve amp from the sixties!  Ace Tone was a precursor to a company we now know as Roland/Boss. Perhaps not a brand that springs to mind when thinking of vintage point to point valve amps. But the swinging sixties also happened in Japan.

It is often claimed that the Acetone Rockey is a japanese copy of a Vox AC15, and the knobs and functionality indicate so. The circuitry is different however: The Rockey is fixed bias, while the AC15 has cathode bias. There are also major differences in the rectifier and the tonestack.

This amplifier is in working order, but the tremolo is not working. (it might just need a new tube, but we left in the old japanese and dutch tubes for mojo). A nice vintage project for someone who likes to work on vintage tube amps.
